that much more

mediocrity sits and stirs,
it lures, festering, within us all;
it’s in our nature to overcome
but also to retreat;
we must feel its heat and not melt,
continue to blossom and belt
all tired and trivial nuisances
out of all waters before us,
if we are ever to find
a chance at becoming that much more.
